Yappari Hon ga Suki is great song, but just a little too short.
Kaguya Table’s repeating animation really syncs well with Joy Division’s ‘Transmission’.

House of Five Leaves 5

...yes please

Masa ends up catching ‘Edo disease’, and goes to stay with the elder on the outskirts of town, who rationalizes that he doesn’t want to do bad things for money, but needs the income. Looks like other people are better at telling him how he feels, than himself. Well, figure it out already! You’re already making money reluctantly, so either save some face or leave the situation!

Ume is a sweet guy, this gang in general are very considerate to the less fortunate, really loving this show! There was an interesting song at the end of this episode, finally, if the music continues to grab my attention I may not avert my attention solely to the manga.

Though that may happen anyway.

sushi sickness and House of Five Leaves

House of Five Leaves

Oi, you look timid...

So I had some sushi last night that has incapacitated me for the day, so I couldn’t make it to work. I’ve never gotten sick from eating sushi, so this was a sneak attack. Waking up 5 times during the night to experience what could only be described as sucker punch to the stomach wasn’t fun stuff. In my downtime however I did watch the first four episodes of House of Five Leaves, and let me just say, LOVE IT. Natsume Ono has a crafted an engaging story: timid samurai Masa ends up working with a group of kidnappers called House of Five Leaves, and while he has reservations about his contributions to said group, he can’t help but appreciate his new companions. Yaichi, the mysterious leader of the group, develops a fondness for Masa that I can’t help but think will lead to danger, fiscal prosperity and a little sub textual bromance. The art style isn’t for everyone, but I’m all for these ugly duckling character designs, didn’t stop me from enjoying Escaflowne or Ono’s previous work, Ristorante Paradiso.

I’m waiting for the music to reel me in, I can’t quite get into bed with a new production until properly serenaded, yes?

blast originating from the past

I’ve found some of my old blog posts from kamineko and mechazawa.net, I’ll be throwing them in here over the next couple of days.

Why? Because you like it, thats why.

Currently Loving:

Florence Welch – Cosmic Love
Broken Bells – The High Life
Yoko Sasaki – Gyutto Zutto (an old favorite)

I’ve been hearing some amazing dance songs on the Indian station (FunAsia Radio) here, but I don’t have a grasp of the language enough to reiterate song titles properly (in type) to do a search. Half of the time the DJ doesn’t even give the song title! orz

Hidamari Sketch

Just picked up Hidamari Sketch volume 1 over my lunch break, I didn’t know it was 4 koma! I can’t resist 4 koma! I blame Azumanga Daioh and Habanero-tan for that..

catching up: animu

The list of anime that I’m going to start watching started out overzealous lengthy.

I’ve watered it down as it’s always daunting and I never get around to watching any of it; it’s like this machine of unintentional avoidance, fueled by my post-otaku jadedness and lubricated by general disinterest. There’s also the availability issue, normally a non-issue, but my access to a few of these shows is dependent on where I am.

Anyway. Durarara, Katagatagari, and Sora no Woto are priorities right now; I will try to blog about them as much as possible, as anime is really the only thing I can muster the effort to talk about with any real zest ease and consistency. Maybe I’ll get roped into THAT blogosphere again, who ka-knows.

Final Fantasy XIII – Music

I’m very impressed with what Masashi Hamauzu has done with the FFXIII score, he must have learned a lot working with Nobuo Uematsu; it’s certainly paid off. Naturally the battle theme has to be good, it’s what you hear the most of, and elegant violin segments really round out intense darker violin segments that prevail throughout much of the song, it all blends nicely to make a perfect loop. There’s also a really ambient, subtle-drum-&-bass-y song that plays during some exploring in Cocoon a few hours into the game, it’s one of the more impressive songs I’ve heard in a Final Fantasy to date. It’s also got a great melodic female voice accompanying it. I’m working my way through the OST now at work and I haven’t run into the aforementioned song yet, so I don’t know the title! Erg!

These soundtracks are half the fun of a Final Fantasy game for me, which might explain the last incarnation’s failure to impress me, but I won’t make a final judgment on that one just yet.

Cymmers

Made a lot of buttons for a client today..

aaaand I feel like a big nerd for indulging the Melty Blood soundtrack again.. It’s not that great with the exception to a few songs, maybe my body associates the hours I spent hearing the songs as BGMs to the muscle memory of destroying my mates at the game and the general warm fuzziness of it all.
